e were down to two suspects for trying to kill me. Having an Incubus on our side was such an asset. I already knew he would be. I was close to my sister, who was a Succubus. She was always the peacemaker in our house, and she was now working as one of the top psychologists in the world.

Raina had been avoiding the dining hall. We only ever saw her in basic hellfire and martial arts. She was totally ignoring Gaius. I should have been able to see this without an Incubus telling me, but Colvyn saw them outside basic hellfire when we were walking him to class. Gaius was trying to talk to her, and she just seemed pissed.

Colvyn read her right there. She wasn’t Gaius’ mate. There was no soul connection between them. Raina was heartbroken there wasn’t one. She would have done anything Gaius asked, including seducing me to get poison in my room, to get him to look her way. She would have slept with me if I had taken her up on it just because he asked her to.

Even if Raina had been the one who put the poison in my bottle, I wouldn’t have killed her for it. I felt sorry for her. If Gaius was the one who ordered her to poison me, he did so not caring if Hayley accused her and she died for it. And she would have. If I had died and Raina had been found guilty, she would have met the same fate I would have. She would have been injected with hellebore and left to die.

I might have hated Gaius even more than I did Rhys if he was willing to use a woman’s feelings like that. Gaius was a crafty son of a bitch, and he was a lot smarter than Rhys, who couldn’t seem to take a hint.

We were all crowded into Hayley’s bed in her room, having yet another discussion about who it could be. My phone vibrated, and the only people who had this number was my family, Melinda, and Lucifer. Lucifer had given Hayley a mirror to contact Melinda and Lucifer on, so they wouldn’t use my cell. It had to be my family. I hoped it was Lilith and not one of my siblings with drama.

I bolted to a sitting position when I saw the text.

“I can’t believe I missed this. Gaius’ school records say he’s a Le Doux from New Orleans. I think you know why that’s impossible.”

“Ha!” I yelled.

I had him. I bolted out of our bedroom, leaving a bunch of confused people behind. I was going to enjoy this. It was going to be sweet karma for every time Gaius had threatened one of us trying to find out who Hayley’s father was because he was lying about his.

I found Gaius in his dorm common room. As soon as he saw me, he stood up and stepped into the hallway like he expected a fight.

“Can I help you, cat?”

I got right up in his personal space.
